A successful implementation of the new online platform, with which UvA can inform and involve their students and teachers better.
The University of Amsterdam (UvA) is the largest university of The Netherlands with over 30,000 students divided over seven faculties. To communicate online with her students and teachers the university uses the UvAWeb, consisting of several websites. In 2012 the university launched a new version of this external, online platform, which at that time ran on its own in-house developed CMS based on Coldfusion. Coldfusion is a web-scripting technology that was popular in the 1990s, but around 2012 their performance, scalability and reliability were overtaken by other Java-based technologies.
The UvA decided to switch to a new web content management system (Hippo CMS) and at the same time to restructure the site with the aim to give the site a more uniform design and improve the user experience. At the time the collection consisted of about 200,000 documents of which 40,000 unique items.
